About Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Daniel Butz
Dr. Daniel Butz
Hey, this is Dr. Butz, I just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin. I did most of my education here in Wisconsin at Edgewood College for undergrad, and then I went to Medical College of Wisconsin from a medical degree. That’s where I met my wife [inaudible 00:00:15] who’s an attorney. We both went down to Chicago for six years where I completed a six year integrated plastic surgery residency. It was there that I really fell in love with facial plastic surgery in general, aesthetic plastic surgery. And then from there we went to San Francisco for one year where did a facial plastics fellowship.
And we always knew we wanted to get out of the hustle bustle of the big city and come back home to Milwaukee, be closer to friends and family. So we came back and kind of settled our family back in the Elm Grove area. We’ve really loved being closer to kind of our roots and really been able to settle down here.
What led me to become a plastic surgeon’s a little more variable course than some. Medical school I was really interested initially in immunology and cancer treatments, but it was through some of my rotations that I was exposed to orthopedic surgery, and then kind of by chance to plastic surgery. And I really appreciated the finesse and attention to detail that the plastic surgeons took to their surgical procedures. And it also just also enabled me to see the impact it could have on their lives, whether it was fixing a finger or sewing up a facial laceration or trauma.
And then I kind of took that into residency and it was through those experiences and seeing the different types of surgery that really brought me into wanting to help people achieve their goals and become more confident.
It was through working with my mentors and seeing their interactions with their patients that I really had to watch and see how they [inaudible 00:01:39] develop true relationships with their patients and how they impacted their lives. Mommy makeovers really transform a mother’s body and their confidence after having children. Breast augmentation for a young woman who is really lacking that confidence can really be a very powerful procedure.
So it really is a wide range of things we can do and offer to help patients really feel like they see themselves and really kind of align their body image with how they feel. That’s really an incredible thing to offer patients. It’s really what it’s me to really provide and do the best I can for all my patients to really see those final outcomes and kind of watch patients transform into being the person they want to be.
When I’m not with patients, I love spending time with my family. I have three small children. Nolan’s almost five, Theo’s three and a half, almost four, and our daughter, Avery, is turning two soon. They’re really the joys of my life, I love taking them to Discovery World, the parks, taking them skiing and sledding, making snowman. They keep me young and agile as possible.
As a child I was often helping my father with all of his handyman projects. We actually built a house together when I was in high school and these kind of small projects and building and using my hands kind of really is one thing that kind of led me into this surgical profession in general. I really liked fine details and being meticulous and trying to make things perfect the first time, this kind of mantra of measure twice, cut once is something I always still kind of hear in my head.
That’s something I also try to impart on my children as I like to try to fix things up at the house, kind of have them help me build things, do things. I think it’s just a lot of fun to kind of have projects together like that to instill in them some of those values that you don’t always have to buy something, you can build something as well. It’s often much more gratifying working with your own hands than to just purchase something or watch it on TV.
Some of the things I look forward to doing as our children get older is really trying to exploring what our beautiful country has to offer. Growing up we used to take RV trips and go to all the different national parks [inaudible 00:03:52] something to look forward to doing. I enjoy driving across the country and seeing the sites and stopping and doing day hikes or camping. So it’s really being outside, kind of getting away from some of the hustle and bustle to really try to just enjoy family’s company and nature as much as we can.
