Depending on your goals and the unique requirements of your procedure, your surgeon may use local or general anesthesia. Our goal is always to ensure you’re comfortable.
Then, your surgeon will make a small incision in your skin and insert a minimally invasive tube. The surgeon will move this tube back and forth to loosen the fat cells, then use a surgical vacuum or syringe to carefully suction the fat cells from your body.
Dr. Thayer or Dr. Butz will work with you to optimize your recovery time as much as possible. You’ll need to follow your surgeon’s post-surgery instructions carefully, and of course, our team is always available to answer your questions in the days and weeks following your procedure.
You’ll have an initial consultation with one of our surgeons, Dr. Thayer or Dr. Butz, who will explain the liposuction surgery in detail and assess the areas you’d like to target. During this consultation, you’ll learn if you’re a good candidate for liposuction and if it’s the best option for your aesthetic goals.
If you and your surgeon determine that you are indeed a good candidate for liposuction, we’ll schedule your procedure at our Mequon location. You’ll receive all the prep and information you need to get ready for the surgery, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
During the procedure itself, your surgeon will make a series of targeted and precise incisions to remove fat cells. Then, he’ll reshape the remaining fatty tissue and skin to give you an improved contour.
This procedure usually takes 1-2 hours, but it could take longer if you’re targeting multiple areas.
The time needed for recovery varies depending on the specific techniques we’ve used or the areas we’ve treated. You may have some bruising, swelling, and numbness for several weeks to months before it fully subsides.
Moderate physical movement is encouraged, but we recommend avoiding heavy lifting and rigorous physical activity for 2-3 weeks after your procedure. You’ll also have to wear compression garments on the treated areas for six weeks after your liposuction surgery.

Liposuction recovery can vary depending on the treatment area and the type of liposuction technique we choose to use.
For most patients, a compression garment will be in place for the first 6-8 weeks after the procedure. You may have some numbness and swelling in the treatment area for several weeks to months. This is normal and will improve with time.
You should avoid vigorous exercise for at least 2 weeks and avoid lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk. We always encourage you to be up and walking several times throughout the day.
Neck fullness and double chins related to extra fat under the chin can be a troublesome area for many people. It is commonly related to genetics and resistance to diet and exercise.
Fortunately, chin and jowl fat can be easily removed with the submental liposuction technique. With this technique, patients can expect the following:

Your surgeon will go over pre-surgery routines with you in detail at your consultation. Some general recommendations for patients about to undergo liposuction surgery are:
Avoid taking blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen for at least five days before surgery
