Upper Lip Lift Surgery & Recovery

Create the look of fuller lips and improve your smile with a lip lift from Quintessa. An upper lip lift surgery is a great solution for correcting any substantial or unwanted space between your nose and upper lip. This procedure involves removing a small portion of skin from below your nose to enhance the appearance of your lips. The positive effects of a lip lift are immediate and long last and recovery typically only takes a week.

One of the most common types of lip lift surgeries performed at Quintessa is called the upper lip lift (subnasal lip lift). The upper lip refers to the area between the base of the nose and the pink of the lip. This bullhorn technique shortens the upper lip to improve the look of the lip area and smile.

Our medical team understands that every patient situation is unique. That’s why we tailor each lip lift procedure to meet our patients’ specific needs.

Why An Upper LiP LiFT

Patients come to Quintessa for a lip lift for numerous reasons including:

  • The appearance of a large upper lip area
  • Teeth not showing when smiling
  • The look of deflated lips

A lip lift improves the smile and creates a fuller lip and the procedure can be performed on patients of all ages. Whether you have always had a large space between your nose and lips, or if this space has grown larger over time, a lip lift will result in an enhanced smile and fuller, more voluminous lips.

What’s more, surgical lip lifts are permanent. Though the patient will continue to age, their results will age gracefully and naturally.

The Upper Lip Lift Procedure

Our expert Dr. Daniel Butz and double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Andrew Campbell, perform this procedure by first making a small incision under the nose and removing skin from that area, shortening the distance from the upper lip to the base of the nose.

The amount of skin removed is customized to each patient in order to achieve the best results. And with the use of local anesthetic, our doctors numb the upper lip area during procedure to eliminate pain. After treatment, Tylenol, ibuprofen and cold compression make any lingering discomfort easy to tolerate.

Upper Lip Lift Recovery and Results

The sutures will be removed in about a week following the procedure. The scar typically heals so well that most patients cannot see it.

This procedure results in a more pleasant shape of the lip area. In addition, the patient’s teeth will show more to create a more natural smile. These results along with your rejuvenated confidence will last a lifetime.

Realself Q&A

Dr. Andrew Campbell - RealSelf Q&A

Are lip lifts permanent?

Yes, surgical lip lifts on the upper lip are permanent. Because the patient will continue to age, the result may also age a little over many years. When executed properly by an experienced professional, patients can expect their upper lip lift results to age gracefully and naturally.

Does an upper lip lift leave a scar?

Yes, there will be a scar following your upper lip lift surgery. However, it will be very well hidden under the nose or along the pink area of your upper lip. Most of our patients will notice this scar diminish within the first week after surgery.

How long does a lip lift take to heal?

Sutures are removed in one week. By that time, the scar usually looks quite good and makeup can be applied if the pink coloration of the scar is still visible. If there is any nagging pain, Tylenol, ibuprofen and cold compression will make the discomfort easy to tolerate until the patient is fully healed.
