Love Your Contours with Tummy Tuck
Pregnancy and weight fluctuations can leave their mark on your abdomen and waist contour. This often results in stretched muscles (rectus diastasis), stretch marks, loose skin and unflattering bulges. An abdominoplasty, also known as a “tummy tuck”, can help give you back the body you once cherished. Quintessa is also proud to be among the first in Wisconsin to offer a “drainless tummy tuck.”
Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a procedure that targets multiple areas of concern at once. We remove the loose lower abdominal skin and fat, utilize liposuction to contour the flanks and provide definition and tighten the muscles to flat and restore your core muscle strength. The end result is a tighter and more aesthetically pleasing contour.
During tummy tucks, Dr. Daniel Butz will surgically remove excess skin and fat deposits, then tighten the muscles in your abdomen which dramatically improve your figure. The results you will see include a smoother, flatter abdomen. If you are having concerns about your appearance and feel that a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, may be right for you, please contact us for your discreet consultation and share your story with us today.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure
The incisions are frequently a common source of concern for patients. Our doctors are aware of this and only makes the scar as long as necessary. There are mini or short scar abdominoplasty when there is less abdominal tissue that needs to be removed. Dr. Butz will carefully close the scar and hide it in the underwear line. Liposuction is commonly combined with the abdominoplasty to provide circumferential contour improvements.
Preparing for your Procedure
As with any procedure, you should stop any medication or supplements that are not essential for 10-14 days prior to decrease your risk of bleeding complications. Please refer to your list of medications to avoid and always check with your doctor prior to stopping medications.
The abdominoplasty incision is determined by Dr. Butz based on the amount of excess skin and fat tissue. He will make sure it is with in your underwear line to ensure it is well hidden. Our doctors will discuss the details of the procedure with you during the consultation. Liposuction is used to address the flanks to ensure the abdominal contour is properly sculpted.
Drainless Tummy Tuck Technique
An advanced technique being used by plastic surgeons is the drainless tummy tuck. It is a combination of a traditional tummy tuck, muscle repair and liposuction procedure -- with the use of a special suturing technique that eliminates the need for post-surgical drains!
This provides all the benefits of a traditional tummy tuck with a much easier recovery since you don't have to worry about managing drains. Drains also increase the risk of infection and potential for fluid collections or seromas.
Drainless tummy tucks are less complicated because the output doesn’t need to be monitored and drains do not need to placed, emptied, or removed. Recovery also tends to be shorter and the scars heal very smoothly.
Not everyone is a good candidate for a drainless tummy tuck and Dr. Butz will discuss if this is a good option for you.
The abdominoplasty is performed in an accredited surgery center with the assistance of an anesthesiologist. A compression garment will be in place for the first 6-8 weeks after the procedure. Dr. Butz may leave two drains in place to help reduce the amount of swelling. Our doctors do perform “drainless” abdominoplasty in select patients.
You may have some numbness, tightness and pulling of the abdomen for several weeks to months. This is normal and will improve with time. You should avoid rigorous exercise for at least 2 weeks and avoid lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk. If you have small children at home, you may need to plan on having someone around to help. We always encourage you to be up and walking several times throughout the day.

Tummy Tuck FAQs
Liposuction is a great option for patients who have extra pockets of fat with good skin quality (no stretch marks, no loose skin) and no stretched muscle.
For patients with excess skin and loose abdominal muscles (rectus diastasis) a tummy tuck would be the procedure of choice. Liposuction can be combined with a tummy tuck to remove fat as well. However, liposuction alone will not address extra skin and stretched muscles.
