Tummy Tuck Surgery in Wisconsin
Have you reached your goal weight through diet and exercise, but still not seeing the contouring you want? Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a procedure that can address multiple issues around the abdomen in one, like loose skin and excess fat. Weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and aging can all affect the abdominal contours for both men and women. The end result is a tighter and more aesthetically pleasing contour that will last. Whether you are near Milwaukee, Madison, or Sheboygan, our surgeon, Dr. Butz, can help you achieve that beautiful hourglass figure you have been chasing.
What is a Tummy Tuck?
Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a procedure that targets multiple areas of concern at once. We remove the loose lower abdominal skin (fleur de lis tummy tuck) and fat, utilize liposuction to contour the flanks and provide definition and tighten the muscles to FLATTEN, and restore your core muscle strength. The end result is a tighter and more aesthetically pleasing contour.
Pregnancy and weight fluctuations can stretch your abdominal muscles (rectus diastasis) and skin, sometimes resulting in stretch marks, loose skin, and abdominal fullness. A tummy tuck can help give you back that hourglass and toned body you once cherished. Quintessa is also proud to be among the first in Wisconsin to offer a “drainless tummy tuck”, making additional post-surgical drains obsolete!

The Tummy Tuck Procedure
Preparing for Your Procedure
As with any procedure, you should stop any medication or supplements that are not essential for 10-14 days prior to decrease your risk of bleeding complications. Please refer to your list of medications to avoid and always check with your doctor prior to stopping medications.
Abdominoplasty Technique
The abdominoplasty incision is determined by Dr. Butz based on your anatomy and the amount of excess skin and fat tissue. He will make sure it is within your underwear line to ensure it is well hidden. Our doctors will discuss the details of the procedure with you during the consultation. Liposuction is used to address the flanks to ensure the abdominal contour is properly sculpted. Additional “360” liposuction is commonly performed to address the entire back contour as well.
Drainless Technique & Lowered Risks
An advanced technique being used by plastic surgeons is the drainless tummy tuck. It is a combination of a traditional tummy tuck, muscle repair, and liposuction procedure — with the use of a special suturing technique that eliminates the need for post-surgical drains!
This provides all the benefits of a traditional tummy tuck with a much easier and less risky recovery since you don’t have to worry about managing drains. Drains increase the risk of infection and the potential for fluid collections or seromas, making this drainless technique a no-brainer! Recovery also tends to be shorter and the scars heal very smoothly.
Mini Tummy Tuck
Monsplasty (or a Mini Tummy Tuck) is a type of cosmetic surgery where excess skin and fatty tissue are removed from the fatty pad over the pubic bone. This procedure is recommended for patients who are more lean with minimal loose skin and stretch marks in the center of the abdomin. While a mini tummy tuck does mean less time in surgery, it is important to consult with an expert surgeon to be sure you qualify.
Scarring
The incisions are frequently a common source of concern for patients. Our surgeons are aware of this and only make the scar as long as necessary. There is mini or short scar abdominoplasty when there is less abdominal tissue that needs to be removed. Dr. Butz will carefully close the scar and hide it in the underwear line. Liposuction is commonly combined with the abdominoplasty to provide circumferential contour improvements.
Recovery
A compression garment will be in place for the first 6-8 weeks after the procedure. Dr. Butz or Dr. Thayer may leave two drains in place to help reduce the amount of swelling.
You may have some numbness, tightness and pulling of the abdomen for several weeks to months. This is normal and will improve with time. You should avoid rigorous exercise for at least 2 weeks and avoid lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk. If you have small children at home, you may need to plan on having someone around to help. We always encourage you to be up and walking several times throughout the day.

Tummy Tuck FAQs
Liposuction is a great option for patients who have extra pockets of fat with good skin quality (no stretch marks, no loose skin) and no stretched muscle.
For patients with excess skin and loose abdominal muscles (rectus diastasis), a tummy tuck would be the procedure of choice. Liposuction can be combined with a tummy tuck to remove fat as well. However, liposuction alone will not address extra skin and stretched muscles.
Keep in mind, a tummy tuck procedure is not a weight loss procedure, but more of a sculpting procedure. You can expect to lose 3-5 pounds of excess skin or fat. However, this also depends on your needs. Your surgeon can help you better understand how much weight you can lose.
The typical cost is between $10,000 and $14,000, however the cost can differ based on your individual needs. A standard tummy tuck includes liposuction of the entire abdomen, repair of the abdominal muscles and removal of excess skin to improve the overall contour of the body. Dr. Butz utilizes a drainless technique which helps aid in recovery. This procedure is typically about two hours long. Patients typically plan for 10-14 days off work.
