Are Breast Implants Safe Now?
Breast implant surgery has never been safer due to advancements in implant technology and a significant reduction in leakage incidents.
Moreover, the risk of surgical complications has decreased, thanks to new techniques and strategies. Women can now enjoy greater peace of mind, knowing the FDA is diligently ensuring the safety of breast implants and promoting comprehensive patient education.
What Are the Different Types of Breast Augmentation Surgeries
Breast enhancement surgery can involve a standard augmentation or a combination approach depending on your needs and goals.
Quintessa provides the following combination procedures:
Breast Lift
This procedure not only revives the natural elevation, contour, and symmetry of the breasts, but it also brings a rejuvenated sense of self-confidence and poise to patients. Patients often report:
- Feeling more comfortable in clothing
- Greater satisfaction in their physical appearance
- A renewed sense of body positivity
Breast Augmentation with Lift
The breast augmentation surgery with lift procedure is the perfect enhancement for sagging breasts and patients looking to treat low natural nipple placement.
Saline Implants
Filled with sterile salt water, saline implants are designed to be safely absorbed by the body if ruptured.
Structured Saline Implants
Similar to saline but with an internal structure to mimic a more natural feel.
Silicone Implants
Comprised of silicone gel, offering a soft touch.
Form-stable (Gummy Bear) Implants
Known for retaining shape even if the shell breaks, these are made from thicker silicone gel and are firmer to the touch.
Round Implants
Tend to provide a fuller appearance and maintain their look even if they rotate.
Smooth Implants
Offer the softest feel and more natural-looking movement.
Textured Implants
Designed to bond with scar tissue to stay in place, reducing movement within the breast.
Breast Augmentation with Fat
This method involves liposuction to remove fat from one part of your body—such as the belly, flanks, back, or thighs—and injecting it into the breasts.
Breast fat transfer is ideal for those seeking a modest increase in breast size. This technique leverages your body’s natural fat, potentially offering a more natural aesthetic.
Mommy Makeover Surgery
Reclaim your body after pregnancy with a Mommy Makeover – it’s more than just a procedure; it’s a complete rejuvenation.
Originally centered around breast enhancements and tummy tucks, today’s Mommy Makeover has expanded to encompass a comprehensive body revival, incorporating innovative 360 circumferential liposuction and a tailored lift of the buttocks to meet your aesthetic goals.

Are Breast Implants Placed Above or Below the Muscle?
There are two commonly used incision site options, peri-areolar and inframammary fold. Both incisions can be used to place the implant above or below the muscle.
Before deciding on breast augmentation in Milwaukee, It’s important to engage with a board-certified plastic surgeon to explore these procedures, understanding the specific advantages, potential risks, and FDA guidelines for each, ensuring the choice aligns with your personal goals and safety considerations.

Recovery and Aftercare
After the breast augmentation surgery, you can expect to take pain medicine for 1-3 days and then over-the-counter pain relievers for another 1-3 days. However, some patients may need no pain medicine at all.
It is normal to feel a slightly uncomfortable sense of tightness or swelling around the breast area, but most patients report that this feeling goes away within a week.
You will be placed in a bra at the end of the procedure. You may remove this and shower after 24 hours. It’s important to use a gentile compression bra during the first 1-2 weeks and stronger bra support when you start doing activities for the first 3 months. We recommend these compression bras for the first few weeks.
You should avoid underwire bras for at least 6 weeks. You may have some numbness and hypersensitivity of the breast. This is normal and will improve with time. You should avoid rigorous exercise for at least 2 weeks but we encourage you to be up and walking several times throughout the day.
Average recovery time is 5-7 days.
Possible Risks
While breast augmentation surgery can yield beautiful results, it’s essential to be informed of potential risks and complications. These can include bleeding, adverse reactions to anesthesia, scarring, and changes in nipple or breast sensation. Capsular contracture, a condition where scar tissue forms around the implant and tightens, may occur. Implants may also rupture or leak, leading to additional surgery. In rare cases, asymmetry, wrinkling, or rippling of the breasts may develop. Similarly, but somewhat in the opposite direction, those considering male breast reduction should also be aware of potential risks and outcomes, as each surgical procedure carries its own set of considerations.
To minimize these risks, it’s crucial to choose a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon that you trust, follow post-operative care instructions diligently, and communicate openly about any concerns throughout the process.
At Quintessa, it is rare to see the above risks in our patients. Dr. Butz’s education, training, and experience have taught him well to minimize these risks and produce beautiful results.

Breast Augmentation FAQs
If you start to experience swelling, you should rest, ice, and keep your breasts elevated. Using two or three pillows the first couple of nights after surgery can help relieve swelling in the upper breast. For more advice, read our blog, 7 Breast Augmentation Recovery Tips.
Deciding to undergo breast augmentation (aka a boob job!) is a highly personal choice that depends on individual goals, expectations, and circumstances. Many find it worthwhile for boosting confidence, enhancing body image, or restoring breast volume lost to aging, weight changes, or pregnancy. It’s essential to consider your reasons, consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to understand potential outcomes and risks, and reflect on how it aligns with your personal and health objectives.
The cost of breast implants can vary depending on your needs, but typically they cost anywhere from $9,000 to $10,000 on average. However, we highly recommend coming in to see our licensed expert medical providers to learn about your options and exactly how much a breast augmentation will cost for your unique procedure.
No, intense pulsed light treatments on the skin should not be able to damage silicone breast implants. That being said, there are risks if the implant is directly under the skin (like those who have had a complete mastectomy with silicone implant reconstruction, with extraordinarily thin subcutaneous fat volume).
Breast augmentation or breast implants are the most requested procedure, but there are many types to choose from based on your desired aesthetic goals. Each surgery offers a different kind of solution for a woman who wants to achieve her ideal look — but all procedures have natural-looking outcomes.
Yes! This may sound surprising, but the most common cosmetic surgery is performed on our breasts. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently published a report showing more than 310,000 women and teenagers in the United States underwent surgery to have their breasts enlarged with silicone or saline implants. It’s been the number one procedure since 2006.
