Is Breast Augmentation Right for You?

There are numerous (and valid) reasons why you may be considering breast augmentation. This profoundly personal decision has been made by many, but again, you have to feel confident that augmentation surgery is what you want. Breast augmentation can:

  • Help you to feel better about your appearance
  • Improving how clothes fit you
  • Enhancing breast size and shape
  • Boost self-confidence
  • Correcting asymmetry or unevenness
  • Restoring breast volume lost due to weight loss, pregnancy, or aging
  • Helps to correct issues from a previous breast procedure
  • Can help you feel younger

Breast augmentation can help you feel more empowered and is a step towards improving your feelings about your body and yourself. Many patients report that after surgery, their well-being improved, and they felt an increase in self-confidence. At Quintessa, you’ll receive the highest level of care from pre-surgery to recovery. From start to finish, our staff of compassionate and understanding professionals are there for you.

What is Breast Augmentation Surgery? What Does it Entail?

When most think about breast augmentation surgery, what generally first comes to mind are breast implants. While this is true, it’s not only about increasing bust size. It also entails enhancing breast shape and location. There are many different options, and your surgeon will inquire about your goals and how they can implement them so that you get what you want and what’s best for you.

At Quintessa, you have different options to suit different needs. Since bodies come in all shapes and sizes, there are different procedures and options for each of them. If you’re ready to discuss them, schedule a one-on-one consultation with one of our professionals today.

Breast Lift With Implants

With this procedure, you’ll not only increase your bust size but also help your breasts regain their natural elevation and symmetry. The breast lift with implants procedure can result in a natural-looking and body-enhancing silhouette. By employing a strategic inframammary fold incision, scars are virtually invisible.

This procedure is perfect for women with sagging breasts or unnatural-looking nipple placement and helps to restore your breast’s youthfulness.

Breast Lift

Has time and gravity changed the appearance of your breasts? Or maybe pregnancy has changed or distorted their location? If so, many women have opted for a breast lift. The benefits of breast lift surgery have helped countless women feel better about their bodies. Patients often report:

  • Their clothing fits more comfortably
  • A more improved body image
  • More self-confidence

Mommy Makeover Surgery

While being an incredibly moving and life-changing experience, the rigors of pregnancy can significantly change a woman’s body. Pregnancy-related body changes can affect many different areas of the body, including but not limited to breasts, belly, and buttocks. Combining surgeries can provide a mom with a newly restored sense of empowerment while limiting anesthesia and recovery time. If pregnancy has left its toll, maybe a Mommy Makeover is for you.

Mothers can combine breast augmentation, a tummy tuck, and other procedures simultaneously. Ideal candidates are in good overall health, are near their ideal weight, and don’t plan on having more children.

Breast Augmentation With Fat

Obtaining larger, fuller breasts doesn’t always involve adding implants. Our Breast Augmentation With Fat procedure eliminates the need for implants. By using the body’s natural fat storage, our expert surgeons transfer excess fat with liposuction to your breasts. It’s almost the best of both worlds: removing some unwanted fat from one area and relocating it where it’s more desirable.

This procedure is best for women looking for a modest increase in bust size, approximately one to two cup sizes.

Breast Revision

Have you had a previous breast augmentation surgery but weren’t perfectly happy with the results or want to improve upon them? If so, our Breast Revision procedure can give your breasts the look you want. Those experiencing implant migration or capsular contracture pains can speak to one of our augmentation experts, who will explain what options are available and what the procedure will entail.

Women with breast cancer may want to explore the possibilities of breast revision surgery to improve the appearance of scars or deformities. Our surgeons have experience with oncologic breast reconstruction. The odds are that 1 out of 8 women will be affected by breast cancer, but fortunately, there are treatment options.

Breast Implants: What Are My Options?

Depending on what your desired result is, you’ll have a few different options for your breast augmentation implants. Your surgeon and the qualified staff at Quintessa can explain which are better for the look you want to achieve. Here’s a look at the most typical breast implants available.

Saline Implants

Saline implants are filled with sterile saline solution (salt water) after they are inserted. Once they are in position, they are filled with the amount of saline required for the desired cup size, allowing for minor adjustments in size during the procedure.

Structured Saline Implants

Similar to structured saline implants, structured ones have a more natural feel. Saline implants, if they leak, aren’t harmful to the body, and the liquid is absorbed into the body.

Silicone Implants

Implants filled with silicone come in different shapes and sizes and closely mimic natural breast tissue’s feel.

Round Implants

This type of breast implant is symmetrical in shame and resembles a half dome. Some women prefer this type as it provides a consistent fullness and round shape to the breasts. If they rotate slightly, it’s unnoticeable, unlike other types of implants that must remain in the same position.

Smooth Implants

As their name suggests, smooth implants have a smooth surface and natural feel.

Textured Implants

Unlike smooth implants, textured implants have a textured surface. Its surface is designed to help maintain an implant’s position within the breast pocket.

Recovery and Aftercare: What To Expect and What To Do

A common concern of those considering breast augmentation therapy is how long the recovery process is. The professionals at Quintessa can help ease your concerns and are open to any and all questions you may have.

Once the surgeon has performed the procedure, there are a few things that you can expect:

  • Mild discomfort
  • Feeling of tightness or swelling in the breast region
  • Moderate bruising
  • Increased sensitivity to touch

For the first 1 to 3 days, you’ll need to take pain medication. For the following three days, you can take over-the-counter pain medications. Some patients only experience minor pain after the procedure and don’t require anything. For the first week, it’s normal to experience pain, discomfort, and tightness in the chest area.

Once the procedure is completed, you’ll be placed in a bra. Leave it on for 24 hours before taking it off and showering. Avoid wearing an underwire bra for the first six weeks. We recommend you wear a gentle compression bra for two weeks. After that, you can wear a bra with more support for the next three months.

Possible Risks

While breast augmentation surgery can yield beautiful results, it’s essential to be informed of potential risks and complications. These can include bleeding, adverse reactions to anesthesia, scarring, and changes in nipple or breast sensation. Capsular contracture, a condition where scar tissue forms around the implant and tightens, may occur. Implants may also rupture or leak, leading to additional surgery. In rare cases, asymmetry, wrinkling, or rippling of the breasts may develop.

To minimize these risks, it’s crucial to choose a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon that you trust, follow post-operative care instructions diligently, and communicate openly about any concerns throughout the process.

At Quintessa, it is rare to see the above risks in our patients. Dr. Butz’s education, training, and experience have taught him well to minimize these risks and produce beautiful results.

Our Three Step Process

1-
Pre-Consultation

Before your consultation, we encourage you to explore our gallery of before and after breast augmentation photos. This can allow to see various examples and choose “wish pictures” to reference during your consultation.

We also provide a pre-consultation video that reviews all available options and goes over safety considerations in detail.

Consultation / Examination

During your consultation, we’ll discuss your specific goals and concerns, view your wish pictures, and answer any questions you might have. Our surgeons perform an examination to determine if you need a breast lift or if there are any asymmetries to consider. This is when you’ll get to try on sizers and see the 3D simulation of potential results.

We don’t expect you to commit to a size during the consultation.

Pre-surgery visit

We schedule a pre-surgery visit to review preoperative and post operative instructions, go over safety considerations and sign consent forms, reviewed prescription medications and to review sizing options and determine your final implant size.

2-
Recovery and Aftercare

After the breast augmentation surgery, you can expect to take pain medicine for 1-3 days and then over-the-counter pain relievers for another 1-3 days. However, some patients may need no pain medicine at all.

It is normal to feel a slightly uncomfortable sense of tightness or swelling around the breast area, but most patients report that this feeling goes away within a week.

You will be placed in a bra at the end of the procedure. You may remove this and shower after 24 hours. It’s important to use a gentle compression bra during the first six weeks and stronger bra support when you start doing activities for the first three months. We recommend these compression bras for the first few weeks.

You should avoid underwire bras for at least six weeks. You may have some numbness and hypersensitivity of the breast. This is normal and will improve with time. You should avoid rigorous exercise for at least two weeks but we encourage you to be up and walking several times throughout the day.

3-
Possible Risks

While breast augmentation surgery can yield beautiful results, it’s essential to be informed of potential risks and complications.

These can include bleeding, adverse reactions to anesthesia, scarring, and changes in nipple or breast sensation. Capsular contracture, a condition where scar tissue forms around the implant and tightens, may occur. Implants may also rupture or leak, leading to additional surgery. In rare cases, asymmetry, wrinkling, or rippling of the breasts may develop.

To minimize these risks, it’s crucial to choose a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon whom you trust, follow post-operative care instructions diligently, and communicate openly about any concerns throughout the process.

At Quintessa, it is rare to see the above risks in our patients. Dr. Butz and Dr. Thayer’s education, training, and experience allow them to minimize these risks and deliver beautiful results.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What can I do to help recover from breast surgery?

If you start to experience swelling, you should rest, ice, and keep your breasts elevated. Using two or three pillows the first couple of nights after surgery can help relieve swelling in the upper breast. For more advice, read our blog, 7 Breast Augmentation Recovery Tips.

Deciding to undergo breast augmentation (aka a boob job!) is a highly personal choice that depends on individual goals, expectations, and circumstances. Many find it worthwhile for boosting confidence, enhancing body image, or restoring breast volume lost to aging, weight changes, or pregnancy. It’s essential to consider your reasons, consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to understand potential outcomes and risks, and reflect on how it aligns with your personal and health objectives.

The cost of breast implants can vary depending on your needs, but typically they cost anywhere from $9,000 to $10,000 on average. However, we highly recommend coming in to see our licensed expert medical providers to learn about your options and exactly how much a breast augmentation will cost for your unique procedure.

No, intense pulsed light treatments on the skin should not be able to damage silicone breast implants. That being said, there are risks if the implant is directly under the skin (like those who have had a complete mastectomy with silicone implant reconstruction, with extraordinarily thin subcutaneous fat volume).

Breast augmentation or breast implants are the most requested procedure, but there are many types to choose from based on your desired aesthetic goals. Each surgery offers a different kind of solution for a woman who wants to achieve her ideal look — but all procedures have natural-looking outcomes.

Adhering to post-operative care instructions is crucial for optimal healing.

Yes! This may sound surprising, but the most common cosmetic surgery is performed on our breasts. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently published a report showing more than 310,000 women and teenagers in the United States underwent surgery to have their breasts enlarged with silicone or saline implants. It’s been the number one procedure since 2006.
