Mequon Liposuction Services: What You Should Know

A liposuction procedure targets specific areas of the body to remove excess fat deposits, reshaping your body’s contours. The goal of liposuction isn’t reducing weight, but improving the appearance of fatty areas by permanently removing fat cells.

What Happens During a Liposuction Procedure?

Depending on your goals and the unique requirements of your procedure, your surgeon may use local or general anesthesia. Our goal is always to ensure you’re comfortable.

Then, your surgeon will make a small incision in your skin and insert a minimally invasive tube. The surgeon will move this tube back and forth to loosen the fat cells, then use a surgical vacuum or syringe to carefully suction the fat cells from your body.

Dr. Thayer or Dr. Butz will work with you to optimize your recovery time as much as possible. You’ll need to follow your surgeon’s post-surgery instructions carefully, and of course, our team is always available to answer your questions in the days and weeks following your procedure.

What to Expect at Your Quintessa Liposuction Procedure in Mequon

1-

First Consultation

You’ll have an initial consultation with one of our surgeons, Dr. Thayer or Dr. Butz, who will explain the liposuction surgery in detail and assess the areas you’d like to target. During this consultation, you’ll learn if you’re a good candidate for liposuction and if it’s the best option for your aesthetic goals.

2-

The Procedure

If you and your surgeon determine that you are indeed a good candidate for liposuction, we’ll schedule your procedure at our Mequon location. You’ll receive all the prep and information you need to get ready for the surgery, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.

During the procedure itself, your surgeon will make a series of targeted and precise incisions to remove fat cells. Then, he’ll reshape the remaining fatty tissue and skin to give you an improved contour.

This procedure usually takes 1-2 hours, but it could take longer if you’re targeting multiple areas.

3-

Recovery and Aftercare

The time needed for recovery varies depending on the specific techniques we’ve used or the areas we’ve treated. You may have some bruising, swelling, and numbness for several weeks to months before it fully subsides.

Moderate physical movement is encouraged, but we recommend avoiding heavy lifting and rigorous physical activity for 2-3 weeks after your procedure. You’ll also have to wear compression garments on the treated areas for six weeks after your liposuction surgery.

Which Liposuction treatment is best?

Submental Liposuction for chin & jowls

Neck fullness and double chins related to extra fat under the chin can be a troublesome area for many people. It is commonly related to genetics and resistance to diet and exercise.

Fortunately, chin and jowl fat can be easily removed with the submental liposuction technique. With this technique, patients can expect the following:

  • Dramatically improved profile view and jawline
  • Skin redraping that leads to a longer-lasting result

If there is severe skin laxity or redundancy, a neck lift may be more appropriate to give you the results you’re looking for.

Newer injectable products, such as Kybella, can be effective for minor fat deposits but liposuction is still the gold standard and produces a more dramatic effect.

Power Assisted Liposuction

Power-assisted liposuction or PALS uses specialized devices to help fibrous fat more efficiently. This is typically performed under general anesthesia and can provide more dramatic fat reduction and results. Some patients may be a candidate for “high definition” liposuction, which helps create more dramatic contours and shadows.

Aside from great results, key benefits of PALS technique include:

  • No pain during the procedure
  • More aggressive volume reduction
  • High definition results

Our board-certified surgeons will help you determine which liposuction technique is best suited to achieve your desired results.

Tumescent Liposuction

What makes this liposuction technique distinct from others is that it is performed in the office with only the use of local anesthesia to reduce pain and overall risk during surgery. Traditional liposuction uses tumescent fluid but also utilizes general anesthesia.

Aside from great results, key benefits of tumescent liposuction include:

  • No general anesthesia
  • Typically less invasive

Our board-certified surgeons will help you determine which liposuction technique is best suited to achieve your desired results.

How Long is Recovery for Liposuction?

Liposuction recovery can vary depending on the treatment area and the type of liposuction technique we choose to use.

For most patients, a compression garment will be in place for the first 6-8 weeks after the procedure. You may have some numbness and swelling in the treatment area for several weeks to months. This is normal and will improve with time.

You should avoid vigorous exercise for at least 2 weeks and avoid lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk. We always encourage you to be up and walking several times throughout the day.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long do liposuction results last?

Liposuction results can be long-lasting when paired with a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle. However, weight fluctuations can cause remaining fat cells to expand with weight gain and shrink with weight loss. It’s important to maintain a healthy lifestyle post-surgery, including regular exercise and a balanced diet, if you want the liposuction results to last.

Your surgeon will go over pre-surgery routines with you in detail at your consultation. Some general recommendations for patients about to undergo liposuction surgery are:

  • Avoid taking blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen for at least five days before surgery
  • Ask a friend or family member to pick you up from the surgery
  • Ensure a loved one is available to help you with the recovery
  • Abstaining from food and drink in the 12 hours before your surgery

Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, so you will not lose weight. The surgery removes excess fat and tightens skin, but doesn’t have a noticeable impact on your total body weight. However, liposuction can improve and contour your body shape, which could help you with maintaining a regular fitness routine and healthy diet that contribute to weight loss.

You will have either local or general anesthesia during the liposuction procedure to prevent pain and discomfort. During recovery, you can expect some bruising, numbness, soreness, and swelling, but they should subside within several weeks.

Liposuction does not treat cellulite or stretch marks. For those concerns, additional treatments may be recommended.
