1. First Consultation
You’ll meet with one of our surgeons, Dr. Butz or Dr. Thayer, to learn about the surgery and whether you’re a good potential candidate. The surgeon will explain how the surgery works and what you can expect, concerning both the pre-surgery preparations and post-surgery aftercare.
2. The Liposuction Procedure
Once you’ve finished the initial consultation and decided that you want to go ahead with the surgery, we’ll schedule a date for your procedure. Our team will fully prepare you for what to expect during and after the procedure.
During the surgery, one of our surgeons will make a series of small incisions. After loosening the fat cells and suctioning them out of your body, the surgeon will refine your body’s contour by reshaping the remaining fatty tissue.
3. Post-Surgery Care
When the liposuction procedure is done, you’ll have to follow the instructions that Dr. Butz or Dr. Thayer gives you for your aftercare. You can expect some bruising, swelling, and numbness for several weeks or several months following the surgery.
You will most likely have to avoid heavy lifting and rigorous physical activity for 2-3 weeks, but moderate physical movement, such as walking, is encouraged. You may also have to wear compression garments on the areas targeted by the surgery for up to six weeks.
How Long is Recovery for Liposuction?
Liposuction recovery can vary depending on the treatment area and the type of liposuction technique we choose to use. For most patients, a compression garment will be in place for the first 6-8 weeks after the procedure. You may have some numbness and swelling in the treatment area for several weeks to months. This is normal and will improve with time.
You should avoid vigorous exercise for at least 2 weeks and avoid lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk. We always encourage you to be up and walking several times throughout the day.

How Long Does Liposuction Last?
Liposuction results can be permanent if you’re willing to make the necessary lifestyle changes following your surgery. Your surgeon will remove fat cells from your body during this procedure, but your remaining fat cells can expand if you gain weight or shrink if you lose weight. We encourage patients to eat a healthy diet and do regular exercise after this procedure.
Can I Lose Weight With Liposuction?
You won’t lose weight with liposuction, as it’s not a weight loss procedure. The purpose of this surgery is to remove excess fat. If skin tightening is a concern, your surgeon may recommend an additional procedure. Keep in mind, however, that the improved contours you have after the surgery could motivate you to maintain a fitness routine and healthy diet.
Is Liposuction Painful?
Your surgeon will manage any pain or discomfort by administering local or general anesthesia during the surgery. While you’re recovering, you can expect to have some bruising, numbness, soreness, and swelling. These should subside within several weeks, however.
