Gynecomastia is swelling of the breast tissue in boys or men, caused by an imbalance of the hormones estrogen and testosterone. Gynecomastia can affect one or both breasts, sometimes unevenly. Treatment may be necessary if gynecomastia doesn’t improve on its own, or if it causes significant pain, tenderness or embarrassment. Dr. Daniel Butz can work with you to discuss surgical options for the effective treatment of gynecomastia.
Male Breast Reduction FAQs
Gynecomastia scarring is heavily influenced by your genetics. Fortunately, there are a number of things you can do to improve the final result. Silicone sheeting/tapes are a simple OTC option. Sun avoidance and sunscreen are essential. If the scars are excessively thick, your surgeon can inject steroids into the scars. Typically, I’ll do this every 6 weeks as needed. IPL and lasers can also help with redness.
