Tummy Tuck Surgery in Brookfield, WI
Even after you have made great strides in your weight loss journey, you may still struggle with your body and what you see in the mirror. This is especially common for people who are left dealing with excess skin and stubborn fat.
You are not alone in feeling this way. A tummy tuck may be the answer to these woes. Dr. Butz and Dr. Thayer in Brookfield, Wisconsin operate like sculptors who chisel and shape your body into a new contour – one that makes you feel like you’re finally you.
At Quintessa, our surgical team can help you embrace a new level of confidence through the rejuvenation of a tummy tuck.
What is a Tummy Tuck?
After pregnancy, weight gain and loss, and other life changes, your abdominal muscles and skin can stretch and loosen. This can lead to stretch marks, loose skin, abdominal fullness, and even a condition called Diastasis Recti in which the abdominal muscles separate from one another.
A tummy tuck is a series of surgical procedures performed to give you back the sculpted body you once had.
A tummy tuck, also called abdominoplasty, targets multiple areas of concern at once. This includes:
- removing the loose abdominal skin and fat
- using liposuction to contour the flanks
- tightening the muscles to restore your core muscle strength
After your tummy tuck, you will have an aesthetically pleasing contour. At Quintessa, we are proud to be among the first surgery centers in Wisconsin to provide drainless tummy tucks, which help to shorten your recovery time and reduce the risks of potential complications.

How do I know if I am a good candidate for a tummy tuck?
What Makes Someone an Ideal Tummy Tuck Candidate?
Tummy tuck candidates need to be in good health. Men and women alike can benefit from a tummy tuck if they deal with any of the following:
- Excess abdominal fat
- Excess skin after weight loss
- Abdominal wall diastasis from pregnancy
- Stretch marks
- Unfavorable shape or contour
You may also want to discuss a “Mommy Makeover” with your Quintessa surgeon if you want to pursue a whole-body revision. In addition to a tummy tuck, a Mommy Makeover in 360 Liposuction and a buttocks lift.
The Tummy Tuck Procedure
Preparing for Your Procedure
About 10-14 days before your procedure, you will need to stop taking any non-essential medication or supplements. Your surgeon can help you determine which medications you should continue to take up until the date of your surgery. Eliminating these extra supplements and meds decreases the risk of surgical complications.
Be sure to disclose all of your medications and supplements with the Quintessa team during your consultation.
Abdominoplasty Technique
When you go in for surgery, your surgeon will know exactly where to make the incision, based on your anatomy and the amount of excess skin and fat tissue you have. Dr. Butz places the incision below your underwear line to allow you to hide the scar.
The surgeon will then use liposuction to remove excess fat in your flanks, creating a beautiful abdominal contour. 360 Liposuction can be performed at the same time to address the contour of your back, too.
We will make sure that the answers to all of your questions are answered before your surgery day arrives. Our team is compassionate, supportive, and knowledgeable. We are ready to make sure you feel prepared for your surgery.
Drainless Technique & Lowered Risks
Quintessa is proud to be among the first Wisconsin plastic surgery centers to use the drainless tummy tuck technique. This approach to tummy tucks allows us to use a special suturing technique that eliminates the need for post-surgical drains.
Post-surgical drains are inconvenient and unpleasant. They also come with risks, including:
- Infection
- Fluid collection (seromas)
- Long recovery times
- Excess scarring
The drainless technique gives you all the benefits of a traditional procedure but with an easier recovery.
Mini Tummy Tuck
An alternative to the tummy tuck is the mini tummy tuck, also called a monsplasty. This procedure addresses excess skin and fatty tissue found on the fat pad over the pubic bone. Monsplasty is an option for leaner patients with minimal loose skin. It requires less time in surgery. To find out if you are a candidate for this surgery, speak with your Quintessa surgeon in Brookfield.
Scarring After A Tummy Tuck
We know that our patients want to know about scarring. You likely have questions like these:
- Will the surgery leave behind a noticeable scar?
- Where will the scar be located?
- How long will it take to fade?
The surgeons at Quintessa understand these concerns and will answer all of your questions about scarring at your consultation. However, we can assure you that your surgeon will place the incision at or below your underwear line, making it easy to hide any scarring. The scar will be as small as possible, too.
If you are an eligible candidate for a short scar abdominoplasty or mini tummy tuck, you may be able to have an even smaller incision. Regardless of which procedure you choose, we promise to do everything we can to minimize scarring.
Recovery Time After A Tummy Tuck Surgery
Immediately after your surgery, you will be placed in a compression garment, which you will wear for the first 6-8 weeks. If we were unable to use the drainless method because of your specific needs, you will also have two drains placed, which reduces swelling. Follow the instructions you are provided at the surgery center for using your drains and compression wear.
You will likely experience normal numbness, tightness, and pulling in your abdomen. This may happen for several weeks to several months but it will improve with time.
You will need to avoid vigorous exercise for the first 2 weeks after the procedure. Some people will need to wait longer, depending on their recovery experience. Parents of small children usually try to have help available during their recovery, because you need to avoid the lifting, reaching, bending, and crawling that often accompany parenting little kids.
From the first day of surgery onward, you are encouraged to get up and walk around several times a day.
Cost of a Tummy Tuck in Brookfield
The cost of a tummy tuck surgery is dependent upon your specific needs and body composition. The average cost is between $10,000 and $14,000.
Our Brookfield team can answer your questions about the cost of a tummy tuck.
Tummy Tuck FAQs
Liposuction alone may be sufficient if you only have isolated areas of stubborn fat without any loose, hanging skin, or stretched abdominal muscles. However, a tummy tuck is usually recommended for those who have been diagnosed with diastasis recti (separated abdominal muscles) or have excess saggy skin and stretch marks remaining after weight loss or pregnancy.
Liposuction can also be performed in conjunction with the tummy tuck, removing loose skin and tightening the abdominal muscles to achieve optimal contouring. Dr. Butz can evaluate your specific concerns and body areas to determine if liposuction, a tummy tuck, or a combination approach would be most appropriate.
A tummy tuck is a sculpting procedure, not a weight loss strategy. You can expect to lose between 3 and 5 pounds of excess fat during the procedure, dependent upon the amount of excess skin and fat that is removed. Your surgeon can help you anticipate how much weight you may lose because of a tummy tuck.
A tummy tuck can vary in cost depending on your individual needs. Because the procedure targets multiple areas of concern, the cost can range between $10,000 and $14,000. Unlike a single procedure, a tummy tuck from Quintessa improves your body’s overall contour.
Recovery varies from person to person, but we recommend that you plan to take 10-14 days off to recover from surgery.
A tummy tuck is designed to create long-lasting change, as long as you maintain a stable weight and your general level of fitness. When your abdominal skin and muscles are addressed by the tummy tuck procedure, they should retain that beautiful contour for years to come.
Although lots of people ask this question, we are happy to be able to share that there are no strict rules about how young or old someone needs to be for a tummy tuck. We regularly perform this procedure for patients who are in their 50s, 60s, and even older. People experience weight loss at any age and they work on their bodies for a lifetime. You can speak with a Quintessa surgeon to learn more.
Although your tummy tuck may review many existing stretch marks below the belly button, the procedure will not prevent new stretch marks or remove stretch marks located above the belly button.
Post-partum women are advised to wait at least 6 months after giving birth before having a tummy tuck procedure. Your post-pregnancy body deserves time to stabilize, and your abdominal muscles need to recover as much as possible from the stretching that happens during pregnancy and childbirth.
