Question: My chest and back are extremely hairy, which give me a lot of anxiety and makes me very self-conscious. How many sessions of laser hair removal would it take to remove all of the hair from both areas?
Answer: It really does not matter what area of the body we are treating since it typically takes somewhere around six to up to eight treatments to rid the patient of unsightly hair in virtually any area of their face of body due to the different cycles that the hair goes through.
The hair is only sensitive to the laser hair removal treatment during its growth phase and this is only a portion of the cyclical phase that the hair goes through and therefore only a portion of the hairs that are visible are in this stage of growth and therefore only a portion of the hairs will be susceptible to eradication by the laser hair removal treatment. That is why we need to perform multiple treatments on a rather consistent basis to give the patient their best result. Depending on how fast the hair grows and what part of the face or body it is in, we may schedule repeat treatments anywhere from four to up to six or seven weeks apart. This will then maximize their chances of getting as many of the hairs in the growth phase as possible so that we can give them the best hair reduction results.
I would recommend that you seek out a well experienced hair removal expert with the new Lumenis Duet system as this new hair removal system has a very large treatment head and also is performed with a slight suction on the tissue, which leads to an extremely comfortable experience and a very fast laser hair removal treatment. When treating large surface areas like the back and chest, the old technology could literally take hours to complete a treatment session. With the new Lumenis Duet system, we are able to perform a full back in approximately 20 minutes and yet have just as good or even possibly better results.
