Question: I am a 45-year-old female but look like I am in my 50s. This is because the lines and folds that extend to both sides of my mouth actually pass my mouth and end up in my chin. Can an injectable filler cure this problem? Is this a permanent solution?
Answer: What you are describing from the corner of your mouth down towards your chin is considered a marionette line or marionette fold. These can be related to heredity in that you can essentially inherit this trait from your parents, and it also is a trait associated with aging. Fillers are certainly an excellent option for marionette folds and can provide a very natural, significant rejuvenation for patients that have these. The fillers that I personally recommend are temporary, but in this location will typically last 9 to 12 months, sometimes even longer. Overall, due to their relatively low cost, they are a very good value and are extremely safe. I would therefore recommend that you consider Juvederm or Restylane products for treatment of your marionette lines.
