Question: Does laser hair removal actually kill the hair follicle? If so, why are maintenance treatments required?
Answer: Yes, laser hair removal does kill the hair follicle in most circumstances but rarely can laser hair removal kill 100% of the hairs in a specific area and therefore frequently patients will require some sort of maintenance to try to keep the remaining hairs at bay. For the most part we try to obtain a 90% to 95% hair reduction with laser hair removal but for patients who desire continued treatment for those remaining 5% to 10% of hairs they will perform this on a periodic basis.
