What is Ultherapy Dr. Andrew Campbell of Quintessa in Milwaukee, WI Explains
Dr. Andrew Campbell
Quintessa was one of the first locations in the country to offer Ultherapy. Ultherapy was and is still the only device that’s ever been given a lift indication by the FDA. Ultherapy is micro-focused ultrasound, which if you can think of a magnifying lens in the sun heating up a leaf, it’s the same with the ultrasonic energy with Ultherapy. During an Ultherapy treatment, the transducer is placed on the skin with a small amount of gel. We’re able to actually visualize the depth of the tissue in that area before we then depress the trigger. Then a line of small zones of thermal energy are delivered underneath the skin, causing an injury to that tissue that breaks down the collagen.
Each one of these little tiny spots then creates new collagen, which in turn tightens. With thousands of these spots around the face and thousands of small areas tightening, we can get a little bit of lift in the brow. We can get a little lift in the jowl. We can even get a little lift in the neck. It seems to also help the area around the eyes, even though we don’t directly treat the skin of the eyes. Ultherapy overall is a very successful way to treat laxity non-surgically, but it does have some limitations. So we are very honest with our patients about what to expect out of the treatment compared to something like, say, a surgical lift. Nonetheless, from a non-surgical standpoint, it’s still the only way to go.
