Question: I am a 49-year-old male, back on the dating scene after almost 3 decades. I am interested in non-surgical alternatives for facelifts. What products do you prefer to use on men? I would like to have a tightening of the skin on my face.
Answer: If we are interested in skin tightening then a form of laser resurfacing would most likely be recommended, whether that is a full erbium laser resurfacing or a ProFractional laser resurfacing both of which can cause a significant amount of new collagen deposition in the skin which in turn tightens and refreshes the skin itself.
If you have facial laxity, which would be laxity in the deeper areas of the face causing jowling, low-set brows, and excess tissue under the chin then I would most likely recommend Ultherapy which is an ultra-sound based device that can target the deeper layer of the face and place energy in this deeper tissue which then causes denaturization of the collage. This in turn causes the healing process to lay down new collagen which tightens and actually lifts the soft tissue. This is the only device ever to be given a facial lift indication by the FDA and it is very exciting for non-surgical rejuvenation.
If you are interested in a more significant lift of the laxity of the face then you may be a good candidate for a minilift in the office, which is performed under local anesthesia, but for even more rejuvenating and longer lasting effects you may want to consider an extended SMAS deep plane facelift which is performed in the operating room. Ultimately, I think a consultation would be appropriate so that we can discuss all your desires and come up with a customized treatment plan.
