Question: Is microdermabrasion similar to sandblasting? What is used for the sand? Does this treatment provide any longer lasting effects?
Answer: Well some microdermabrasion is very similar to sandblasting and in fact uses the exact same particles that are on sandpaper. At Quintessa Medical Spa though we use a particle-free microdermabrasion system which uses small diamond chips embedded in a wand that is placed under suction and then the wand is painted across the face to remove the superficial dead layer of skin cells, which then provides a good polishing to the skin giving it more vibrancy. There are very little longer lasting effects of microdermabrasion and that is why we typically recommend that patients consider getting microdermabrasion treatments on a regular basis, every 1 to 2 months.
