Question: My wedding is in six months and I am interested in getting my lips plumped with a temporary filler for the occasion. I do not want any nasty side effects for the big day, of course, so I am trying to get the facts beforehand. Should I get my lip augmentation with injectable fillers a month or so before my wedding so there is not any swelling?
Answer: A month before the wedding certainly seems like a reasonable timeframe as all the swelling will be gone typically within the first few days or, at most, a week and, at a one-month timetable, the entire amount of augmentation from the filler should still be present as, in most patients, this lasts for nearly six months. I always recommend that patients seek out an experienced injector when it comes to lip augmentation due to the fact that a poor injection technique can lead to “sausage lips” or “duck lips” that can detract from your overall appearance but, if the injections are performed artistically and appropriately, you can get a beautiful augmentation to your lips that appears quite natural and improves your overall facial appearance.
