Question: I have been doing research on a collagen treatment for the lips. How do you decide on whether to use human or bovine-derived injectables for lip augmentation?
Answer: I personally have not used collagen in probably close to 8 years at the time of this blog and have relied on the newer hyaluronic acid fillers for lip augmentation due to the fact that they are extremely reliable and last much longer than the older collagen products; however, if I had to chose between a human or bovine-derived collagen I would simply chose the human collagen because no skin testing is required. There are newer porcine-based collagen injectables that do not require skin testing, but once again I personally prefer the hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm.
